Love the Sun, Hate the Damage?
Being located in Florida the “sunshine state” we are always protecting ourselves and our families from the sun. We wear sunscreen, protective clothing, and sunglasses to help protect us from ultraviolet Rays. But are we protecting our homes from these harmful rays?
We all work hard to care for our homes. So it is frustrating to see the sun damaging our homes. We may see fading in our flooring that is by a sliding glass door or large window, or we move a chair to see that expensive rug we invested in is faded, or our precious family photo is damaged from the light coming through the windows. In order to solve the issue of fading we need to first identify the cause of it.
As a general rule of thumb, ultraviolet (UV) is approximately 40% of the cause, visible light is about 25%, and heat is about 25%. The remaining 10% can be attributed to humidity, pollutants, interior lights, dye stability, and more.
So what is the solution?
3M Window Films are designed to reduce the effects of solar heat and visible light on your furnishings, flooring, and other valuables and will block up to 99.9% of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, which are the single largest causes of fading. Depending on the film you choose, you can enjoy a 79% reduction in the sun’s heat. While no window film can completely stop fading, 3M Window Film can slow the progress and can prolong the life of our furnishings, flooring, and other valuables for 2-5 times longer depending on the performance of the film selected.
3M Window Film is so effective that not only is it used to reduce residential fading, but it is also used to help preserve historic homes, artwork, and more. Take for example a project that we at Ultra Security Window Film got to work on, The Ca’d’Zan, home of the Circus King John Ringling and his wife. This 36,000 square foot home was built in 1926 and designed and inspired by the Venetian Gothic style. In 1996 the Building underwent a comprehensive restoration and conservation project. Finally in 2002 at the cost of $15 million, ten times the original cost, Ca’d’Zan was returned to his former glory. Inside on the walls are paintings by Langetti, Sorine, Devouge, and Mazo. Carpets and rugs were conserved or replaced. Even Clothing from the Ringling’s was returned to closets and drawers. And they chose to preserve this beautiful building and the treasures inside it by using 3M Window Film Ultra Prestige 70.
his almost clear film created by 3M delivers the highest performance possible without metal. With the Prestige Series your home exterior stays beautiful and from the interior your view is as clear as your original window.
